Every year, more than $400 billion in federal funds are awarded to states and communities based on census data. That’s more than $4 trillion distributed over a 10-year period. This includes funds for resource and referral, subsidized child care, technical assistance and family support services.
Census data guide local decision-makers in important community planning efforts, including where to build new roads, hospitals, new housing developments, neighborhood facilities and schools.
Census data affect your voice in Congress. The Census determines how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as the redistricting of state legislatures, county and city councils, and voting districts.
As a Census partner, Family Central staff including Gilbert Rincon and Tamara Bell are actively participating on several Broward County Complete Count Committees. Earlier this month, Amy Peterson represented Family Central at an Atlanta Regional Office Census Bureau sponsored summit for refugee service organizations and community leaders. Family Central will also be a key distribution center for Census information for child care facilities and the families that they serve. In addition, we have completed or initiated the following activities as Census partners:

While we await promotional materials from the Census Bureau, electronic copies of posters, flyers and other Census literature have been made available to Family Central staff for distribution throughout our three offices, for provider and parent mailings and for community events.
The Census “IT’S IN OUR HANDS” logo has been added to the front-page of the Family Central website and the logo is available to be added to appropriate written materials. The link takes you to the official US Census website.
Earlier this year Family Central’s Broward office served as a training site for local US Census enumerators.
